Open Water Certification - Pool and Class -  Weekend

Your Open Water Certification consists of three components: Classroom Knowledge Development, Confined Water Training, and Open Water Dives. This is the first of two parts - the first step - to becoming a PADI Open Water Diver. This is the traditional version of Pool and Class, with in-person classroom work on a Weekend.

Your Classroom and Confined Water Training will prepare you to complete your open water dives through the introduction and in-depth study of diving skills, safety, physiology, and problem management. Your instructor will guide you through the program, introducing you to the gear you'll be using to dive, and walking you through becoming a diver, step-by-step. Through five modules, you'll cover the following:

-Use and basic maintenance of scuba diving gear

-Management of problems underwater and at the surface

-Mastery of skills required to dive safely

-Dive theory and physiology

-Dive computer use

Prerequisites:

-Minimum 10 years old (Junior Open Water)

-Good swimming skills

-Completion of PADI Medical Questionnaire

Please pick up at least a week in advance of your course to give you enough time to complete the pre-read and knowledge reviews.

Your crewpack will contain a medical waiver that you are required to fill out. You will need to physically answer 'YES' or 'NO' to all the questions asked. If you have any 'YES' answers - no worries, you will need to get a doctor to sign off prior to being allowed to participate in the pool portion of the course. Please note this is a requirement to being able to get in the pool. If you come to class with a 'YES' and no Doctor's approval, you will be required to reschedule.

Knowledge Development

This develops your familiarity with basic principles and procedures. You learn things like how pressure affects your body, how to choose the best gear and what to consider when planning dives.

You complete Knowledge Development on your own, reading each of five sections of the PADI Open Water Diver Manual and watching the corresponding section of the PADI Open Water Diver Video (which also previews skills You'll learn). If you like learning with a personal computer, you can also get the Open Water Diver Manual and Video together as a CD-ROM You briefly review what you studied in each section with your instructor and take a short quiz to be sure you’re getting it. At the end of the course, you take an exam that makes sure you've got all the key concepts and ideas down.

Confined Water Dives

This is what it’s all about – diving. You develop basic scuba skills in a pool. Here You'll learn everything from setting up your gear to how to easily get water out of your mask without surfacing. You'll also practice some emergency skills, like sharing air – just in case. Plus, you may play some games, make new friends and have a great time.

There are five confined water dives, with each building upon the previous. Over the course of these five dives, you attain the skills you need to dive in open water.
